Since one of my colleagues put together a blog for his recent research trip, I thought I would do the same. More importantly, there seems to be a general lack of practical information on conducting research abroad (finding housing, getting around town, etc.). As far as I can tell, there is no central source for this kind of information in my field. Most of what I have learned so far has been collected from conversations and emails with my fellow students, professors, and friends.
Of course, every country is different and so is every city. My research is, for the moment, based out of London, and that will provide the context for what will follow here.
Also, I told rather a lot of people I would keep in touch with them, and, perhaps, this blog will aid in that task.
